Thanksgiving is defined as an act of giving thanks; an expression of gratitude, especially to God. Just like the Plymouth Colony Pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving in October of 1621 in appreciation of their first harvest, much in part to the assistance from members of the Massasoit tribe (End of history lesson)…..we celebrated with our family and wonderful friends, Peyton’s first Thanksgiving! He knew from the beginning this was no normal day…fancy clothes, camera flashing, laughter everywhere, smiling faces, and a strange popping noise heard repeatedly then followed by the words, ”more anyone?”
The roll call for dinner was long and distinguished…Joe, Deb, Caitlin, Tim, Kristy, Seth, Areil, Mark, Allison, Ron, Wally, Sarah, Logan, Grayson, Meghan, Peyton, and Me. If you counted Nittany…it totaled 18!! To converge upon Hermitage Road we came from all parts..Atlanta, New Orleans, Seattle, Pine Haven Street, and Ivy Lane with one goal in mind….turkey and champagne! With such a daunting culinary challenge most would run from the kitchen screaming….not Deb and Kristy. They weaved an intricate balance of holiday design and festive fare that would make Paula Dean stand up and shout….”You go girls!”.
With our stomachs full and spirits high we laughed and took the traditional walk….Mark and Peyton’s first together….no day could have been more perfect for us. It was our first Thanksgiving as parents, we welcomed many new friends into our lives, and added more wonderful memories to look back on and smile. To everyone..Joe, Deb, Caitlin, Tim, Kristy, Seth, Areil, Mark, Allison, Ron, Wally, Sarah, Logan, and Grayson…thank you for making our first Thanksgiving with Peyton so wonderful!!
