iPod or iTouch Parental Controls- USE THEM

Sitting at my desk last week, I received a fairly NORMAL receipt from iTUNES.  It lists any recent music, movie or app downloads.

We gave the 10 year old daughter an iTouch for Christmas, so recent receipts also show a whole host of “free downloads” that she has installed.  Good news is that iTunes requires my password to download even free apps.  I haven’t given my daughter that password and I recommend you don’t either.

Together, she and I discovered that there are free are apps called:

  • Sex IQ
  • How to Kiss
  • You Must Choose (kinda like truth or dare)
  • Spin the Bottle
  • iLove
  • Truth or Dare
  • iGay
  • iGirl Meets iGuy
  • Pick Up Hotties
  • Kiss or Miss
  • Sex Positions Game
  • Sexy Dice

Guys, the list goes on and on and on and on….and I just started down the path of the free ones!

Lessons learned:

1.  Do not give your kid the iTunes password.

2.  Don’t allow his/her friends on the iTouch.

3.  Go into the AppStore and download Mobicip Safe Browser now ($4.99).  You’ll then remove Safari.

4.  Go into your settings and enable parental controls.

I had a good conversation with her about this.  She underestands and respects that she cannot any longer download apps directly to her ipod, but must go through iTunes on my computer.  Doesn’t mean I’ve isolated her completely, but I’ve helped protect her from these things that won’t help her self-esteem or confidence.   Good luck!
